This year, “The Metal-Twisted G-Shock”, also known as the MT-G, will take another step forward. MT-G will continue to be the toughest G-Shock of all, continue on its preset evolutionary journey. The new MTG-B2000 will take up the role from its preceding generation to lift the MT-G’s strength and beauty to a greater height.
A few years back, we still remember clearly that it was Casio G-SHOCK 30th Anniversary, that’s when MT-G made a major design change. MT-G was introduced as the METAL TWISTED G-SHOCK; other than the top of the line MR-G, only MT-G G-Shocks contains some metal parts. At first, it was a bit confusing, the market back then didn’t really see G-Shock and ‘metal’ can be closely related. Until now, Casio has launched many more metal-made G-Shocks, especially the hype and popular GMW G-Shock Squares series; many G-Shock fans seem more and more appealing to metal-made G-Shocks.
Throughout the years we see the advancement of each MT-G, the MTG-S1000, MTG-G100,0 and MTG-B1000; better and better. MT-G is known for its sophisticated manufacturing craftsmanship that incorporated advanced technology. Many successful MTG were made, such as the MTG-S1030BD-1AJR, MTG-B1000RB-2AJR, MTG-B1000TF-1AJR, also the more recent MTG-B1000DCM and MTG-B1000VL-4A. MTG-B2000 continues to emphasize its Triple G Resistant - Shock-resistant structure, Centrifugal gravity-resistant structure, and Vibration-resistant structure. MTG-B2000 is stronger than ever, and targeting even greater strength. Furthermore, MTG-B2000 is achieving the above goal by at least 10% weight reduction; it only weight 156g. The newly developed “dual-core guard structure” has fully utilized carbon material to reduce all the excessive weight. An inner integrated carbon monocoque case is used to protect the module, while the exterior is under a full-guard of metal.
In terms of design, MTG-B2000 has a distinctive 12-sided (dodecagon) bezel, pretty outrageous, and standing out indeed. Like the other MTGs, the case body is made of metal to achieve a more sophisticated appearance. By separating the metal frame and bezel, a pretty distinctive look is made possible by inserting a colorful unique ion plating metal piece on the bezel. The stainless steel metal exterior is fully polished to project a glamorous look. MTG-B2000 altered the side button design, it is guardless and much cleaner compare to the previous MTG models. The strong scratch protected Sapphire glass is used for the MTG-B2000. This is the first MT-G model using three dual-coil motors, allowing for swift hand movements. Further looking closely at the dial, you will find all the delicate detail engraving on the indexes that enhancing the dial structure, it strongly showing off Casio Yamagata Factory’s fine craftsmanship.
Speaking of weight reduction, the new combine composite resin and metal strap have played an important role, it is 15% lighter than the previous generation. Indeed, a new slide lever structure design made interchangeable straps easy and available. A black soft urethane band (BANDGS51P-1JR) and a stainless steel composite band (BANDGS51D-1JR) will reportedly be sold separately for 16,500 JPY and 33,000 JPY (tax-included), respectively.
In terms of functionality, it supports time adjustment via the dedicated app “G-SHOCK Connected” with a smartphone via Bluetooth. Which many of us are already familiar with the app functions. Of course, the MTG-B2000 has incorporated the Casio must-haves: Multi-Band 6, Tough Solar. Lastly, the dimensions of MTG-B2000 are 55.1 x 51 x 15.9 millimeters, compared to 55.8 x 51.7 x 14.4 for the MTG-B1000.
G-SHOCK's challenge is never-ending. Keeping the spirit of MTG, wish MTG-B2000 can be another successful series.
This new MTG-B2000 reminded us a famous quote from Shigenori Itoh, the ex-Chairman and CEO of Casio’s Timepiece Division who just retired last year, “Remaining true to G-SHOCK’s heritage of innovation in Shock-resistant watch performance, we have created a set of premium timepieces that will last not just a lifetime, but through generations.”
This MTG-B2000 series should release in November 2020, strongly looking forward to it. Meanwhile, for the MTG fans who might want to check out how the MTG was born in 2013, you may want to check out the retro video: Shock The World 2013" Casio G-SHOCK 30th Anniversary
