First introduced in 1983, the original model DW5000C successfully captured the hearts of many with its iconic square design, tough durability, innovative material and endless practical functions which were all very new to the watch world back in the 80s.
And over these past few decades, G-Shock has continued to delight their fans with different premium versions of the square, particularly with the launch of the GMW-B5000 Full Metal series in 2018 with each piece having their own uniqueness and finishing touches which made them irreplaceable. Just when you think G-Shock has put a halt to upgrading the square, Casio’s exquisite Premium Production Line at Yamagata tastefully excites us once again with the first ever pairing of the luxurious G-Shock flagship lineup MR-G series and the 1983 original DW5000C. Meet the ultimate square G-Shock MRG-B5000 - in black and in silver - released recently in March 2022 and now available at Watch Outz, made exclusively in Japan.
Based on the first ever G-Shock DW5000C, the new MRG-B5000 model meticulously combined the trademark square design and all its renowned features with the state-of-the-art metals and craftsmanship that the MR-G flagship line are famously known for.
The fact that three different types of specialized metals are utilized in the construction of the new MRG-B5000 reflects MR-G’s utmost attention to detail. Crafted in COBARION®, a cobalt alloy that is four times harder than pure titanium, the top portion of the bezel finely takes on the same brilliant shine as platinum. While the case assembly is constructed from Ti64-based super-hard titanium alloy, the band is made from another special titanium alloy DAT55G which Casio boasts, is three times harder than pure titanium and provides excellent workability. Rounding up the package deal is a scratch-resistant, highly transparent sapphire crystal with a non-reflective coating and DLC titanium screw-locked caseback.
Instead of crafting a single bezel unit, the bezel alone is composed of 25 separate tiny components which are then individually polished with Sallaz polishing just before assembly, giving the MR-G Square MRG-B5000 model an impressively stunning finish that MR-G series are best known for. Featuring a newly developed shock-resistant Multi-guard Structure which incorporates flat springs and silicone buffers to the multi-component bezel, the MRG-B5000 ensures outstanding shock absorption owing to the name of G-Shock.
The watch face of the MRG-B5000 model respectfully takes on the iconic brick pattern and red line for the frame, paying subtle tribute to the 1983 G-Shock DW5000C original design while proudly stamping the MR-G logo on the lower left. At a surprising weight of only 114g, the MRG-B5000 on the wrist both looks and feels substantially lighter than any stainless GMW-B5000 square G-Shock out there. Unlike any of the standard full metal square Casio G-Shocks, the MRG-B5000 effortlessly impresses anyone with its high level of quality and construction as it is elegantly workable for everyday wear while embodying a stylish vibe that MR-G’s luxurious watch lavishly represents.
The MRG-B5000 is well-equipped with numerous different features that easily exceed anyone's needs. A few worth mentioning are the special-purpose MR-G module with gold-plated circuit retainer plates used to reduce electrical resistance, time signal reception, Bluetooth® communication capabilities for smartphone connectivity, multi Band 6 which allows synchronization with up to 6 clock towers around the world to ensure spot-on timekeeping, and Tough Solar (solar powered).
Sporting an entirely black diamond-like carbon DLC with both gold IP-plated buttons and a gold IP-plated case back, the MRG-B5000B-1 model’s black IP finish seems to change its colour tone depending on how light falls on it and tastefully enhances the glossy mirror finish of the COBARION® material by resembling the original black DW5000C. Meanwhile, the MRG-B5000D-1 takes on a silver titanium carbide-coated case with matching buttons and a black DLC-coated case back. Whether it is the black or the silver, the ultimate square MRG-B5000 is surely one that Casio G-Shock enthusiasts can’t wait to get their hands on.

GMW-B5000TCM-1* - Laser Engraved Camouflage model with DLC coating finish on the metal surface, making it scratch resistant. Gradations of the grey camouflage pattern are created by using dot patterns of three different sizes: small, medium, and large, resulting in a distinctive and unique design.
GMW-B5000TR-9* - Multicolour Mirror Square Face model with the first all-mirror finish on a titanium G-Shock. Gold IP finish on the case, band and buttons also IP finish in red, blue, light grey, dark grey, and gold - colours used for accents on the face as well. Special "TranTixxii" titanium material developed jointly by Nippon Steel Corporation and partner companies incorporated into the square design and claims to be twice as hard as pure titanium.
