Grand Seiko Evolution 9 Collection Gets Sporty

The future of Grand Seiko and the Evolution 9 Collection goes hand in hand and there could not be one without the other. Drawing true inspiration from the original 1967 creation, the Evolution 9 Collection innovatively enhances all aspects of the design to a whole new level. As a continuously evolving collection of Grand Seiko, the Evolution 9 now branches out and gets sporty - adding five new Spring Drive sport watches to the collection with two featuring a GMT caliber (SBGE283 and SGBE285), two GMT chronographs (SBGC249 and SBGC251), and last but not least, a 200m diver’s watch SLGA015. With the Grand Seiko Style deeply rooted, the enriched designed features that are so uniquely Evolution 9 are stamped in the new Sports collection - wider handsets and newly designed fonts resulting in a more pleasing aesthetic and heightened legibility, and wider lugs and more ergonomic forms deployed to bring increased comfortability on the wrist.

Apart from the silently beautiful Spring Drive movement, what further excites us are the impressive features that come along with the Evolution 9 Sports Collection. Made of high-intensity titanium, the cases and bracelets are now about 30% lighter than stainless steel and brighter in color.

With the hands and indexes coated with sufficient Lumibrite, legibility is further enhanced at night. And with the importance of sport in mind, the crown guard has been carefully designed to avoid being caught on the sleeve in both sport activities and everyday use - the thoughtfulness and attention to detail that Grand Seiko is all about. 

SBGE283 - A Classically Styled Sports GMT

The versatile Grand Seiko Evolution 9 SBGE283 Spring Drive GMT takes on a deep black dial that is understated yet elegantly sporty.  The black colour background creates the perfect backdrop to the oversized markers and hands, creating exceptional legibility. The GMT hand on the SBGE283 allows a second time zone to be read at a glance. Made of high-intensity titanium, which is 30% lighter than stainless steel, it is light on the wrist and an absolute delight to wear. 

The 9R66 caliber delivers a power reserve of three days and, like all Spring Drive watches, the seconds hand moves in perfect, silent glide motion like time itself. With 10 bar water resistance, a see-through case back, and an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface of the sapphire crystal, the SBGE283 is surely a GMT watch for every occasion.

SGBE285 - A Sports GMT with a Wintery Dial

Inspired by the morning mist in winter in the Shinshu region which is home to the studio where all Grand Seiko Spring drive watches are made, the light gray dial of the SBGE285 dons an intricately textured surface pattern that is truly reminiscent of the beautiful winter landscape. 

Such a sense of being close to nature is greatly displayed in the Grand Seiko Evolution 9 SBGE285 Spring Drive GMT, and like its other half SBGE283 which is all black in monochrome, the wintery dial SBGE285 is made of high-intensity titanium, a 9R66 caliber, 10 bar water resistance, a see-through case back, and an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface of the sapphire crystal. Two Spring Drive GMT watches will be available in July 2022 at the Grand Seiko Boutiques and Grand Seiko retail partners worldwide.

SBGC249 - Chronograph 15th Anniversary Limited Edition

In commemoration of the 15th Anniversary of the Grand Seiko Spring Drive Chronograph, the SBGC249 features a deep blue dial and bezel which echo the colour of the night sky while contrasting with the brightness of the high-intensity titanium case. Powered by a specially adjusted movement Caliber 9R96 which delivers an impressive accuracy of ±10 seconds per month (±0.5 seconds per day), the SBGC249 measures elapsed time up to 12 hours and the seconds hand moves in perfect, continuous and silent glide motion. 

At a limited edition of 700, the watch also features a rotating bezel and a gold GMT hand that stands out to enable it to display a third time zone. The deep blue colourway of the chronograph SBGC249 shimmers between black and deep blue in the most alluring manner and is available in June 2022 at the Grand Seiko Boutiques and Grand Seiko retail partners worldwide.

SBGC251 - A Spring Drive Chronograph of Quiet Authority

Powered by Caliber 9R86, the subtle black dial SBGC251 Spring Drive chronograph delivers an accuracy of ±15 seconds per month and measures elapsed time up to 12 hours. Just like other Evolution 9 Sports Collection, the case of the SBGC251 is of high-intensity titanium, a material that is 30% lighter than steel and yet more impervious to scratches and corrosion.

SLGA015 - A Uniquely High Specification Diver’s Watch

Kuroshio Current, also known as the Black Stream, is one of the world’s largest ocean streams that weaves through the Japanese archipelago and flows northwards past Japan towards the North Pacific. The dynamic and at times violent tides caused by the Black Stream inspire the deep black colour and richly textured surface of the dial of the new 200m diver’s watch SLGA015. In an all-metal diver that won’t weigh you down while possessing a sheen more like steel than a watch made from high-intensity titanium, the captivating black dial of the SLGA015 perfectly captures the sense of the powerful deep dark force that is not solid black, but resembling that of a dynamic fierce black tide.

Powered by Spring Drive Caliber 9RA5, it offers an accuracy rate of ±10 seconds per month and a 5 day power reserve. The inner section of the rotating bezel is in ceramic to protect the SLGA015 from being scratched.
