First introduced in 2019, the octagonal shaped Casio G-Shock GA-2100 series exploded onto the scene and immediately earned itself a cult following amongst the watch community. Known for their uniquely distinguishable and essentially functional designs, Casio’s strong brand identity and the timepiece’s resemblance to the iconic Audemars Piguet Royal Oak garnered huge success for the GA-2100 and from then on, the suitable nickname of CasiOak was born.
Like the Royal Oak, the distinctive octagonal bezel of the CasiOak became instantly recognizable as a popular symbol within the sports world. Whereas a genuine Royal Oak can cost too much for some, the GA-2100 comes at a much more accessible price point and it is available to anyone who wishes to get their hands on one.
And now, the wait is finally over for CasiOak fans. Casio has officially dropped the first-ever full metal G-Shock GM-B2100 series which will be available in late August 2022. The much anticipated premium version of the CasiOak is already causing yet another watch hype before its arrival and there are plenty of legit reasons for that.
Upgraded from the standard resin plastic that is so classic G-Shock, the new CasiOak GM-B2100 climbs a giant step closer to the luxury watch icon it was named after as it gets a full-on royal stainless steel treatment in both case and bracelet. Full metal seems to be the next step forward for most, if not all G-Shock lineups these days. Although the success of Casio’s G-Shock was built on tough, plastic-cased digital watches, the Japanese watchmaker is expanding its realm into a more premium and luxurious sense by adopting metal and analog features in their work, a recent example being the MR-G Squared MRG-B5000 as featured in our blog “MR-G Squared: The Ultimate Square G-Shock MRG-B5000”.
Similar to other Full Metal series created by Casio, the bezel of the G-Shock GM-B2100 is shiningly attractive; meanwhile, the bracelet presents enhanced textures with differentiated hairline and mirror finishes. Equipped with a screw-back case and coming in at just 12.8 mm thick, the iconic G-Shock shock-resistant structure inherited from the GA-2100 carbon core protection design is kept by the fine resin buffering components that are installed between the stainless steel bezel and case to protect the module from shock.
Also upgraded on the new CasiOak G-Shock GM-B2100 are the employment of a slim Tough Solar powered timekeeping module and Bluetooth® connectivity found in other metal G-Shocks. While delivering high utility with Smartphone Link and Tough Solar functionality, other features include world time, countdown timers etc. - the GM-B2100 impressively packs all that in a slim case which sits comfortably on the wrist.
Available in three absolutely gorgeous and versatile colorways, the new CasiOak GM-B2100 series come in classic plain Silver GM-B2100D-1A with polished and brushed surfaces as found on many luxury watches, as well as versions with cool stealth Black ion-plating GM-B2100BD-1A and elegant yet playful Rose Gold or Copper ion-plating GM-B2100GD-5A.
